Fort Edward National Historic Site

North America’s oldest blockhouse is getting a facelift!

Issued: June 18, 2024

Parks Canada staff are replacing the pine siding on the Fort Edward National Historic Site blockhouse.

The existing siding likely dates from the 1950s. The new material is also pine and was sourced near Port-Royal.

Local assets staff and traveling specialists are working together to share heritage restoration skills and knowledge.

Though the blockhouse is fenced off, the grounds of Fort Edward National Historic Site remain open for visitors to enjoy.
