Info-Work: Temporary Swing Bridge Delays Upper Nicholsons Lock 19 and Kilmarnock Lock 24

Rideau Canal National Historic Site

Smiths Falls, Ontario, August 6, 2019 – Consultants will be onsite conducting engineering investigations at two Parks Canada’s swing bridges within the Township of Merrickville-Wolford starting on August 6, 2019.

The work will require temporary, single lane closures, and traffic control personnel will be present. Motorists are asked to plan accordingly for traffic delays and to avoid the following intermittent lane closures:

  • Friday, August 9: Upper Nicholsons, a part of Andrewsville Road

  • Monday, August 12: at Kilmarnock, a part of Kilmarnock Road.

Drill rigs will be onsite to enable geotechnical investigations at both sites. In addition, on August 6 and 7, consultants will conduct 3D scans and sound assessment of both bridges and surrounding areas. This work will not impede boat or vehicular traffic.

Parks Canada thanks you for your patience as we conduct this important work.
