Info-Work: Rideau Canal Wall Inspections Continue in Downtown Ottawa - Eastern Pathway Detour in Effect

Ottawa, Ontario, March 9, 2018 – Ongoing investigative coring on the Rideau Canal Walls in downtown Ottawa will continue through to the end of March, weather permitting. This investigative work will assess the conditions of the Rideau Canal’s concrete walls, as well as the subsurface soil conditions. The information gathered through this work will help with the planning of any future repair work required in these areas.

The canal wall investigations will take place at multiple locations between the Laurier Avenue Bridge and Corktown Footbridge. In order to maintain the safety of the public and workers, the eastern pedestrian pathway around the investigations will be closed. Detours will be in effect with signage posted to guide pathway users.

Throughout the process to repair the Rideau Canal walls in downtown Ottawa, Parks Canada has worked closely with the National Capital Commission.

The repair of the Rideau Canal walls is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion investment over five years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
