Site opens for the 2024 visitor season on June 1.

Whether you’re looking to connect with nature, participate in fun outdoor activities with the whole family, explore history, or just have a change in pace, Parks Canada has 450 000 km² of protected areas waiting to form unique experiences and memories.

Located in every province and territory, national historic sites reflect the rich and varied heritage of our nation and provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about our diverse history. At Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site, visitors can watch history come to life at the fur trade encampment, see artifacts from the historic fort, and try their hand at voyageur games! A variety of activities will be offered throughout the 2024 season.

Starting on June 1, Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site will officially open for the 2024 visitor season! This year, the Fort will have a daily fur trade encampment with a costumed interpreter showcasing aspects of everyday life of the people that lived in and around the fort.

There’s truly something for everyone at Fort St. Joseph – visitors can choose to go for a pedal on a fat bike, take a stroll through the trails, check out the historic ruins on the shores of Lake Huron, or visit the fur trade encampment. Smell bread baking in the traditional clay oven or learn how to start a fire with a flint and steel, all with the personal touch of a costumed interpreter.

The Parks Canada Xplorers program is a fun, free way for children to learn about the cultural and natural history around the fort and earn a souvenir to take home. Parks Canada’s staff at Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site are excited to welcome new and returning guests back to experience everything that the fort has to offer. Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site Hours:

Open weekly from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., every Wednesday to Sunday beginning June 1 until September 30. The site is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
