Maria Street - Temporary bridge closure

Issued: September 25, 2024

Ends: October 04, 2024

Parks Canada advises that the Maria Street Swing Bridge located at Lock 20 between Armour Road and Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough, Ontario, will be closed to vehicular, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Monday, September 30 to Friday, October 4, 2024, inclusive. The closure is necessary to complete structural repairs and inspections of the bridge.

Detour signage will be posted to direct vehicles to alternate crossings at Parkhill Road East (via the Warsaw Road Swing Bridge) or Lansdowne Street. Pedestrians and cyclists are invited to use the lock gate crossings at Lock 20 - Ashburnham.

The bridge will reopen to vehicular, cyclist, and pedestrian traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. daily. Vessel traffic will not be affected by the closure.

For the safety of area residents, drivers are asked to follow the detours to limit traffic on quieter residential streets. Due to load and clearance limitations, trucks over 5 tonnes must avoid the Hunter Street crossing at the Peterborough Lift Lock and the McFarlane Street Bridge.

Parks Canada would like to thank area residents and visitors for your patience and understanding.
