Remains of the Consumers Cordage rope factory
Lachine Canal National Historic Site
The remains of the Consumers Cordage rope factory are located on the south side of the Lachine Canal, close to Island Street. The origins of this rope factory in its current location go back to the middle of the 19th century. At that time, it was known by the name John Converse.
Today, all that remains is part of the three buildings of the Consumers Cordage complex including the oldest dating back to 1910. The buildings of the complex were demolished following a fire in 1996-1997.
