Winter Safety
Chambly Canal National Historic Site
The Chambly Canal National Historic Site trail is not groomed or supervised between November 15 and April 15.
We invite all users to be careful when using the path in winter months, as conditions can vary considerably from one moment to the next. While the site remains accessible, Parks Canada reminds you that snow-covered surfaces can be slippery. You should also avoid approaching footbridges and locks, where there is a real risk of falling.
To ensure that you enjoy your visit in complete safety and avoid any incidents, here are a few tips to follow:
- The use of shoes adapted to winter conditions can help to reduce the risk of falling.
- Avoid crossing railings and keep at a safe distance from the canal walls to avoid slipping.
- It is forbidden to venture on the ice that forms on the Chambly Canal in winter and to practice ice skating, skiing or driving a snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle.
