What

Pursuant to subsection 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following area is closed to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent:

Where

The following wildfire impacted areas remain closed, as delineated on the attached maps:

Maligne Canyon: Access to Maligne Canyon trails and surrounding land is prohibited from First Bridge parking lot to the Fifth Bridge junction. Adjacent areas within the wildfire perimeter, such as the rock gardens climbing area, the Old Man scramble and two valley canyon remain closed.

Highway 93A corridor: Highway 93A, Whistlers Road and Marmot Road remains closed. The area south of Highway 16 and west of the Icefields Parkway remains closed to frontcountry and backcountry use. This closure extends south to the Fryatt Trail (trail 120), with the exception of day use areas and roadside facilities on the Icefields Parkway.

Skyline Trail area: The Skyline (trail 100) is open from the Maligne trailhead for frontcountry and backcountry use. Access is not available from the Signal trailhead (trail 100, 7i) or Wabasso Lake - Curator (trail 101), which remain closed to all use. Signal backcountry campground also remains closed.

The Palisades Centre: access to the Palisades Centre is prohibited.

Frontcountry Campgrounds: all frontcountry campgrounds remain closed.

Why

To ensure public safety in wildfire impacted areas.

Penalty

Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
