Prohibited Activity Order

Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby prohibited by order of the Superintendent, Gulf Islands National Park Reserve of Canada:

Location: Sidney Island (Sidney Spit) and surrounding area

Other than for park management purposes or by written authorization from the Superintendent:

• All vessels (including human, wind and motor powered vessels) are prohibited from entering the Sidney Island Lagoon, south of the line of white buoys that extend across its entrance, between the eastern shore of the Hook Spit and the dock at the designated campground;

• All persons and vessels are prohibited from going ashore on Eagle Islet, located at the southern end of the lagoon;

• Entry or travel on the intertidal mudflats exposed along the shoreline of the Sidney Island Lagoon is prohibited (please use the designated trails);

• Entry or travel in the vegetated areas at the northern tip of Sidney Spit and along the length of the Hook Spit is prohibited. All persons and activities are restricted to the beach areas.

The purpose of this order is to prevent the disturbance of important resting, nesting and feeding areas for resident and migratory birds, and to protect designated special preservation areas due to their ecological and / or cultural sensitivity.

Contravention of this order may result in fines or court prosecution under regulations pursuant to the Canada National Parks Act.
