Weaving Our Tales

Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Every basket holds a story…

“Every basket made by hand holds a story – a story of its maker and how he or she learned the craft, of its materials and the season in which they were collected, and of its era and how the basket was constructed. It is also a story of the intended use of the basket and its role in the life and economy of the community.” – Joleen Gordon

Join park staff at this hands-on program as we exchange stories and reflect on the deep tradition of weaving and basketry across time and cultures. Learn some basic weaving skills as you use natural materials to create a small tray, ornament, or other park-inspired item to take home, with your memories woven in!
