Hot springs

The park contains several geothermal areas where subsurface water, heated deep within earth’s crust, bubbles to the surface at hot springs. At Sadéé Shúh Gaǫfáá (Sunlight Mountain Hot Spring) and Pı̨́ı̨́p'enéh łéetǫ́ǫ́ Gaǫfáá (Broken Skull Hot Spring), these mineral-rich waters trickle into a series of warm pools. Stopping for a soak at one of the hot springs is a highlight for many park visitors. Remote wildlife cameras show that animals also like to visit these areas to bathe in the warm water and graze on the luxuriant vegetation surrounding the pools.

Be sure to observe the correct cultural protocols to show respect when visiting these special places. Note that camping is prohibited near hot springs.
