Meet Sharon, Resource Management Officer

Favourite part of your park?

Ninishith Hills – I’ve never been on the ground there but I am always fascinated by the landscape and imagine myself exploring it. There are rows of steep hills in the Little Buffalo River area west of Parson’s Lake Road.

Best project/study you’ve gotten to work on?

Bat surveys – I feel proud and a sense of responsibility as I was able to initiate this project and keep it going and it is now considered a regular part of the park’s monitoring. And I have learned SO much about bats!

Favourite part of your job?

Being outside! And getting to explore and travel to some amazing places: caves, sinkholes, big and little rivers, salt plains, delta.

What do you love about science/tech?

I’m really interested in Natural History and observing animals and plants. There are some really cool tools that allow us to listen and observe like ARUs (automated recording units) and remote cameras. These tools allow us a broader picture of what species are present and where they are. But they don’t replace humans, just expand our ears and eyes!
