Ukkusiksalik National Park
Ukkusiksalik National Park features expansive tundra and an Arctic climate, all contributing to its diverse ecosystem.
Tundra
Ukkusiksalik National Park is dominated by vast tundra, superimposed on the Canadian Shield. The tundra is characterized by its low vegetation, primarily dwarf birch, willow, and mountain avens, which have adapted to the shallow, nutrient-poor soils atop the permafrost.
Tidal Areas
Significant tidal areas are dispersed throughout the park, including mudflats and polynyas - areas of open water surrounded by sea ice. These tidal areas are crucial for maintaining and supporting the park's various marine and terrestrial life.
