Kitesurfing

Thousand Islands National Park

The St. Lawrence River, Mallorytown Landing in particular, is becoming an increasingly popular site for the sport of kitesurfing.

Kitesurfing has been described as a combination of wakeboarding, paragliding, and gymnastics. Kitesurfers use large kites to propel themselves along the surface of the water on boards similar to wakeboards. With experience, kitesurfers can master flips and other feats of speed, strength, and endurance.

Thousand Islands National Park doesn't provide any kitesurfing equipment or instruction, just a scenic waterfront to practise your skills. Look for kitesurfing equipment and instruction in Kingston or Ottawa or just come to witness it first-hand.

Any watersport involves risk. For more information on natural hazards, weather conditions, and planning a safe activity, please see our Visitor Safety page.
