A few thousand years ago, human activity began here as nomadic hunters followed the wildlife slowly migrating north to the Laurentians lands.

L’occupation humaine a débuté il y a quelques milliers d’année, alors que des chasseurs nomades ont suivi la lente progression de la faune vers le nord et ont atteint les terres laurentiennes.

Over time, the area was used in various ways. For example, Wapizagonke Lake was a major road and food source for the Atikamekw, an entry and supply point for fur traders, means of transportation for forest workers, and a getaway and gathering place for hunting and fishing club members.
