Warsaw Road Swing Bridge – Extended Bridge Swings
Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site
Peterborough, Ontario, August 24, 2022 – In early July, selected grating panels on the Warsaw Swing Bridge located on Parkhill Road were removed, repaired and then reattached to the bridge in an attempt to reduce the noise caused by vehicles using the bridge. Since that time, Parks Canada has been monitoring the bridge and associated noise level to determine if the repair was successful before moving on with a full repair.
As previously stated, although the repair on the selected grating panels was successful, additional panels are increasingly being affected by the same issue. In advance of the full repair scheduled for this fall, Parks Canada has installed temporary hold-downs on the more problematic panel.
Given the success of this initial trial, additional temporary hold-downs will be installed in the coming days. To minimize impacts on traffic, the work will be carried out during regular bridge swings. Delays due to extended bridge swings can be expected. The repair work will not impact navigation along the waterway.
Lastly, please be advised that traffic control measures which were put in place a few weeks ago to slow down traffic approaching the bridge are still in place and will remain until the temporary work has been completed.
More information will be provided as it becomes available. Parks Canada understands the frustration this situation has caused and would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.
Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including investments in the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site in Peterborough.
