The concrete bridge pier is being constructed using a tremie concrete placement method: using a pipe, concrete is placed underwater and its mass displaces the water around it. The lower end of the pipe is kept immersed in fresh concrete so that the rising concrete from the bottom displaces the water without washing out the cement content. A turbidity curtain surrounds the pier’s concrete forms to isolate the pour from the canal water, and the water within the curtain is treated if required.
