Community Update: Commissioning of New Bridge

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

March 16, 2019 – Contractors will be onsite at Parks Canada’s Brighton Road Swing Bridge on County Road 64 in the coming weeks to complete unfinished work and begin the commissioning of the new bridge for frequent summer operation.

What to expect:

  • March 18 to March 29 - intermittent bridge swings, lasting up to 15 minutes, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

  • April 1 to April 12 – potential closures of up to four hours, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

  • April 15 until further notice - intermittent bridge swings, lasting up to 15 minutes, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Parks Canada apologizes for the inconvenience of these closures.

The replacement of the Brighton Road Swing Bridge is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion investment over 5 years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada. These historic investments will mitigate health and safety risks, halt the deterioration of nationally significant built heritage, and stimulate the economy in communities across the country.
