Agriculture at a glance

Rouge National Urban Park

Cultivating a vibrant community of over 60 farmers, Rouge National Urban Park oversees the stewardship of roughly 9,000 acres of agricultural lands that comprise fields and adjacent farmhouses. This dynamic landscape embraces diversity, nurturing over 30 types of crops that showcase the richness of Rouge’s agricultural heritage. Enriching the park’s soil quality, farmers cultivate on Class 1 soils — some of the rarest and highest quality in Canada. Beyond the fields, the park plays a pivotal role in supporting a population of around 500 residents and roughly 200 homes, the majority of which are under tenancy.
