Community Update: Contractors to Mobilize to Site in July
Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site
June 21, 2018 – In mid-July, the contractor will mobilize to site to begin the rehabilitation of Dam C and Bayview Dam E Bridge at Port Severn Lock 45 located on the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
The project will begin with the installation of a cofferdam at Bayview Dam E. Cofferdams are structures that provide dry work space for construction on in-water assets and also protection of the surrounding environment by containing construction materials in a confined space. This is particularly important at Bayview Dam E Bridge as a regionally significant fish spawning site rests below the dam.
In September, after the cofferdams are installed, the contractor will begin with surface concrete removal for the refacing of Dam C and the demolition of Bayview Dam E Bridge. The current bridge structure will be removed in preparation for new concrete abutments and a new precast concrete deck. This work requires a road closure scheduled from early September 2018 until late December 2018. More precise closure dates will be provided as we draw nearer to the date. Parking at the Lockstation will also be limited from September to December as half of the parking lot will be used as a laydown area.
Port Severn Detour Route
Once Bayview Dam E Bridge is closed, highway 400 from Port Severn Road offers the alternate driving route to cross the waterway.
