Community Update: Construction Update
Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site
October 4, 2018 – Work is progressing well on phase one of the Port Severn Area Dams and Bridges project. Repairs to Bayview Dam E, its adjacent fixed bridge, as well as Dam C will continue into mid-December.
In late October 2018, phase two of the project will begin with the installation of the main dam cofferdam just east of Lock 45. This phase will include the replacement of the main dam and fixed bridge, as well as repairs to Dam D. In order to complete this work, Port Severn Road will be closed for 18 to 24 months at the main dam. More precise closure dates will be provided once the contractor for the full project construction has been awarded. The detour route will be maintained across Highway 400.
Phase One Progress
The contractor has now completed the demolition of the Bayview Dam E fixed bridge deck. In the upcoming weeks, they will work on re-facing the concrete on the dam and bridge abutments. Once that work is complete, new decking will be placed on the abutments to complete the dam structure and the fixed bridge roadway crossing. Until that time, a detour along Highway 400 will continue to facilitate crossing the waterway. This past week, work also began on Blind Dam C just north of Bush’s Marina. The dam will have the concrete re-faced to ensure its continued structural integrity. Substantial completion of phase one work is scheduled for late December 2018, although paving near Bayview Dam E Bridge may be completed in spring 2019 due to availability of asphalt.
Port Severn Detour Route
Port Severn Road is now closed at Bayview Dam E Bridge. The alternate driving route to cross the waterway is Highway 400.

Parks Canada Investments into the Port Severn Site
Parks Canada is making significant investments into eight assets in the Port Severn Area to ensure their preservation for generations to come. This project currently includes the rehabilitation of the Main Dam, Bayview Dam E, Little Chute Dam G, and Blind Dams A, C, and D, as well as the replacement of the Port Severn Fixed Bridge and Bayview Dam E Fixed Bridge. This project is now scheduled to conclude in 2021.
The Port Severn Area Dams and Bridges project is part of Parks Canada’s unprecedented $3 billion dollar investment over 5 years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
