Performance management: 2022-2023 End-of-cycle assessment
Sent on March 2, 2023
Hello,
As we approach the end of the fiscal year, everyone should be preparing for the End-of-cycle performance review. This final step of the Performance Management Cycle offers us a chance to reflect on our accomplishments as well as recognize our achievements, while also touching on areas requiring improvement.
Below you will find the items to be addressed by April 28, 2023:
Team members:
- Prepare for your end-of-cycle discussion. Reflect on your objectives and results from this year and think about the areas for improvement. Consult the Employee self-assessment for support.
- Review your Learning Plan and ensure that all mandatory training has been completed, notably on subjects such as Health & Safety in the Workplace, and Preventing Harassment & Violence in the Workplace for Employees.
- Discuss these objectives and results and the ways in which you obtained them with your manager.
- Enter the results in the Public Service Performance Management App.
Managers:
- Review and update employee performance agreements, as needed.
- Review employee learning plans and ensure that all mandatory training has been completed, notably on subjects such as Health & Safety in the Workplace, and Preventing Harassment & Violence in the Workplace for Employees.
- Collect sufficient data in order to establish a fair performance rating for each employee reporting to you. Consult the Guide to Year-End Performance Assessment and Determining Employees’ Ratings for tips & tricks.
- Be prepared to discuss objectives and results and how they were obtained during one-on-one feedback sessions with employees.
- Complete the employee performance evaluations in the Public Service Performance Management App.
If you do not have access to the Public Service Performance Management application (PSPM), you can complete this paper form.
Note that the mid-cycle section must be completed and signed before the end of the cycle can begin in the PSPM app. In cases where a manager is unable to assess their employee’s performance, the “not applicable” option can be selected for the respective objective or core competency in order to proceed with the rest of the assessment in the PSPM App.
Seasonal Employees
It is possible that the established deadlines do not apply to your employment period. The end-of-cycle performance evaluation should be completed as close to the end of employment as possible. Please consult the ParksNet page for seasonal employees for more information.
Work Objectives and Learning Plans for 2023–2024
You may wish to use your performance evaluation discussion to initiate discussions about the work objectives and learning needs for the new cycle. The beginning of year performance agreements should be completed in the PSPM application by May 31, 2023.
Resources
The Performance Management ParksNet page offers many resources and tools to help you through each step of this process.
