Infrastructure funding for Parks Canada
Sent on January 23, 2023
Dear colleagues,
Today, in Banff National Park, Parliamentary Secretary Terry Duguid announced, on behalf of Minister Guilbeault, that Parks Canada is receiving $71 million over three years for infrastructure projects in the mountain national parks area. These projects include important infrastructure renovations for the Lake Louise community, improvements to Parks Canada dispatch in Banff and Jasper, as well as a number of road and bridge repairs.
I was very pleased to participate in this announcement and have the opportunity to connect with many of our team members and partners who are so dedicated to conserving heritage places. This funding will ensure we are able to share these treasured lands with visitors for years to come.
Additionally, three other related funding announcements have occurred in these last days including:
- $25 million for highway and bridge work in Gros Morne National Park and L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site;
- $13 million for foundation and accessibility work to Radium Hot Springs;
- $12 million for heritage infrastructure work at Fort Henry, Fort Wellington, Laurier House and Sir John Johnson House National Historic Sites.
With the help of these funds, we will be able to maintain high standards for visitors, and increase safety on the roads and highways that lead to Parks Canada administered places in those regions. These investments are a part of the recently announced $557 million funding for Parks Canada's assets to ensure the continuation of infrastructure projects and maintenance work supporting the vital service we offer for the benefit of all Canadians.
Thank you to all involved in these announcements and projects, and to everyone for working to ensure that we can continue to protect and present Parks Canada administered places.
Ron Hallman
