International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Hello,

Tomorrow is International Day of Women and Girls in Science! As co-champions of the Network for Women Employees, we wanted to take a moment and express our appreciation for our female and non-binary colleagues working in conservation, science, and research, whose work significantly helps with the ongoing protection and preservation of so many treasured Parks Canada-administered places across Canada.

February 11th is designated by the United Nations as an international day, and was created to promote the full and equal access to and participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by women and girls, and foster gender equality and diversity within the workforce.

To celebrate this day, we encourage you to check out the Women in STEM at Parks Canada page on ParksNet. If you are a woman working in STEM with Parks Canada, please consider submitting your content with the internal communications team, as they will be sharing stories and experiences as part of this campaign for the whole month of February!

You can also learn more about this international day on the United Nations website, which highlights many resources and fascinating stories about how “science is absolutely for everyone” – Lisa Harvey Smith (Women in STEM Ambassador, Australia).

If you are interested in joining the Network for Women Employees at Parks Canada, please send us an email at cdf-wec@pc.gc.ca or check out our ParksNet page for more information.

Best wishes,

Christine Loth-Bown and Julie Tompa
