Great loss within BC Wildfire Services

Dear colleagues,

It was with a heavy heart that I received the tragic news of the passing of a firefighter from B.C. Wildfire Services. Devyn Gale lost her life while battling a severe wildfire near Revelstoke. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fellow colleagues during this unimaginably difficult time.

We have all witnessed the incredible dedication and selflessness of B.C. Wildfire Services and other fire management teams, including team members who support Parks Canada’s National Fire Management Program, who risk their lives to protect our communities. The enduring partnership between Parks Canada and B.C. Wildfire Services is a cherished alliance that we value and maintain with heartfelt appreciation. With about 2,000 wildfire fighters currently combating over 350 fires across British Columbia, we are once again reminded of the dangerous circumstances they face, the physical and emotional toll they bear, and the personal sacrifices they offer in our protection.

Today, let’s pause for a moment to reflect on the inherent risks that many Parks Canada team members willingly undertake to protect Canadians, and let’s express our sincere gratitude for their remarkable dedication. Their unwavering commitment to duty and the professionalism they exhibit every day is a source of inspiration for all of us.
