Parks Canada Youth Network
Dear colleagues across Canada,
As Co-Champions for Youth, we are excited to announce the establishment of a Youth Employee Network at Parks Canada!
The Government of Canada has stated the importance of youth participation and engagement as youth represent one-fifth of the Canadian population. It is important that youth voices are heard to help coordinate shaping Parks Canada as the next generation enters the workforce. Youth are a unique demographic as they represent multiple sub-demographics including First Nations, Métis, Inuit, Black and racialized, and 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, employees with disabilities, official languages, many of who can face barriers to meaningful participation in society.
The Youth Employee Network at Parks Canada has three main goals:
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for youth to share experiences and ask questions without judgement.
- Teaching youth about the products, opportunities, and resources available to them at Parks Canada to assist in navigating the public service, career advancement, and community building.
- Advancing youth participation and representation in decision making and community practices at Parks Canada by providing new perspectives, outlooks, and experiences to projects, meetings, and strategies.
Who can join?
Youth employees, including students working at Parks Canada.
How can I join?
If you are interested in joining this network, please contact us at youthnetwork-reseaujeunesse@pc.gc.ca to be added to the email list. Also feel free to send your personal email to join the YEN distribution list to keep up to date with continuing opportunities at Parks Canada if you are with us on a temporary basis.
When is the first network meeting and what can I expect?
Our first meeting will be held virtually on May 31, at 10:30 am - 11:30 am EST. The first meeting will be a chance to meet your youth community across Parks Canada, introduce the supporting co-champions, discuss co-chair roles and working together on identifying ideas and priorities for the Network moving forward (but feel free to send us your ideas anytime!).
Where can I find more information?
The Youth Employee Network has created an Intranet page to connect the youth community and showcase opportunities available to youth at Parks Canada: Youth Network - Parks Canada Intranet.
We are thrilled to begin working together to create a network where youth can come together as a community and be heard. We look forward to hearing from you!
