Honouring Veterans’ Week and Remembrance Day 2024

Dear colleagues,

Every year during Veterans’ Week, we honour those who have served to defend peace in Canada and abroad. In the days leading up to Remembrance Day on November 11, Canadians are encouraged to reflect on the sacrifices and courage of the people who have served our country through times of war, conflict, and peace. This past October, Parks Canada honoured a new Hometown Hero, Floyd H. Prosser, who served with the 1st Armoured Brigade overseas. His story is now featured in the Halifax Citadel’s Hometown Heroes digital exhibit along with the others who have been honoured.

This year holds special significance as we mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force—a milestone that reflects a century of dedication to contributions to national safety and security, international peace, and global stability.

On November 8, Indigenous Veterans Day, we recognize the many contributions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit throughout Canada’s military history.

Let us embody Parks Canada’s values of respect and engagement by showing our gratitude and encouraging others to take part in remembrance. From November 5 to 11, I encourage you to get involved in the following:

By actively participating, we contribute to the legacy of remembrance and ensure that the stories and sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten.

Thank you for joining in these important commemorations.
